About Me

My name is Steven Miller and I am a photographer.  I mainly take photographs of landscapes, HDR and food. My interest in photography began when I was very young due to the influence of my maternal grandfather. My grandparents traveled extensively and took many slides on their trips. As a young boy he let me run the slide projector when showing the images he had captured. After that I was hooked.

After college I bought my first camera, a Minolta SRT 101, which I still own.  Since then I have acquired a number of cameras and even built my own 4×5 view camera. For a long time I had a dark room. I still miss the darkroom days. There is nothing quite like watching an image appear in a developer tray. Today, my darkroom has been replaced by Photoshop. Although I shoot mostly digital images I still shoot some film which I then scan into the computer with a digital film scanner.

My wife and I live in western Colorado which puts us in the middle of some the most stunningly beautiful country in the world. The Rocky Mountains are to the east of us and the canyon country of southern Utah to the west. Within a 2 to 3 hour drive we can be high up in the snow covered mountains or in locations such as Arches National Park, Canyon Lands National Park. Our house sits at the base of the Colorado National Monument, another fabulous red rock canyon area, which is part of the National Park system.  My portfolio contains many images from these areas of the West

There is great beauty in the natural environment that surrounds all of us. Photography is a way to capture and preserve this beauty for others to see and enjoy. I have thousands of images. This web site contains a sampling of my work.  As you browse through my images I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them.
